Whole School Pre-Prep

The Pre-Prep Department had a wonderful time when they visited The Look Out Discovery Centre in Bracknell this week. With a focus on hands-on science, the girls had the opportunity to explore and learn from over 90 activities across five themed zones.

In the Light and Colour Zone the girls had great fun leaving their shadows on the wall and creating sounds by breaking the light beams.

In the Forces and Movement Zone, the girls discovered that gravity brings a hot air balloon down and that hot air is needed to make the balloon rise.

In the Body and Perception Zone, the girls designed their own ball runs, tested their reaction speed on Batak, solved the human body jigsaw and made their own helicopters. As the girls watched their own helicopters take off, one Year 1 pupil shouted excitedly, “This must be how the Wright brothers felt!”

In the Woodland and Water Zone, the girls created food chains, used the indoor stream to discover more about water flow, locks and dams and got very excited using the centripetal force to make different wheels dance on the turntable!

In the Build It Zone the girls became members of The Look Out construction crew, using the rubble chute and driving the dumper trucks.

Finally, the girls thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Pushes and Pulls show which explored the power of forces.

It was a hugely interesting day for the girls as they discovered just how exciting science can be!
