Rear Admiral Mark Anderson from the Royal Navy visited Pipers recently to deliver a career talk to Year 11 about the variety of roles available in the military, and the advantages of a career in the armed forces.

He spoke of the changes for women in the Navy and explained that it is only within the last four years that women have had exactly the same opportunities as men. In 2014, three women became the first female submariners in the 110-year history of the Submarine Service.

Mark spoke about life on a nuclear submarine and where he had been during his time in the Navy. Mark’s core message was that there are a range of more unusual careers out there that lots of people, girls in particular, are not aware of, and he encouraged them to do further research.
