Year 12 Textiles Students enjoyed a workshop with Textile Artist and Author Janet Edmonds this week. The workshop which required the girls to look to fine artists for inspiration, used Janet’s book "From Art to Stitch" for guidance.

The students chose to focus on Chuck Close, an American artist who paints giant canvases which are divided into grids and each square painted separately but when viewed from a distance, looks like a photograph.

This process gave the girls ideas to run with and create their own work, coping sections of their own artwork or using photographs from their summer expeditions in the same way as Chuck Close. It enabled the girls to look more closely at their own approach and appreciate the different scales that can be produced in both Textiles and Art.

The workshop was very successful and served to encourage the students to be more observant and adventurous in their approach to developing designs and stitching.
