Whole School Academic

World Book day was brought to life at Pipers Corner when the whole school dressed up as favourite literary characters.  The Music Department dressed as the entire cast of characters from C.S Lewis’s The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and so Aslan spent the day working with the White Witch.  Meanwhile, the Wife of Bath from Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales rubbed shoulders with Miss Havisham from Dickens’s Great Expectations and Roberta from Edith Nesbit’s The Railway Children.

Girls and staff carried their chosen books around all day and many classes devoted time to reading and discussing favourite books, with girls finding out that, yes, Maths and Biology teachers do love reading and have many relationships with authors, characters and scenes.

Wall displays invited girls to “Guess the teacher caught reading in the photograph” and tables at the literary-themed lunch were scattered with books. The Senior Library provided quizzes and competitions.

Headmistress Mrs Ness-Gifford said, “World Book day is a fabulous opportunity for the girls to celebrate books and reading, and I hope the activities inspire the girls to consider the breadth of literature available to them”.

The love of books was everywhere. Everyone left at the end of the day having met many weird and wonderful characters in the hallways and with a mental list of book recommendations.
