During their Art lessons this term girls in Year 7 have been working on a theme about “personal identity” and how this translates into pieces of art.

At the start of the Spring Term the girls made observational pencil drawings of their own shoes. These were then developed further into psychedelic patterned pieces, taking inspiration from the 1960s themed Founder’s Day celebrations which took place back in September.

The fantasy shoe designs were then created from discussions and research about the girls’ own interests and activities outside of school. The girls went on to use their research to create a 3D shoe using a variety of different media including wire, modroc, natural and man-made objects, collage and paint. A whole range of interests were used to create their shoes from ballet, sports, literature and music to animals, nature and food.

The shoes are currently displayed in the Lady Buckinghamshire Lobby for the whole school to admire.

Mrs Kearsey, Art teacher said “All the girls really got involved in the fantasy shoe project and have worked very hard to achieve some beautiful and creative pieces of art.”

Comments from girls about the project and their shoes include:

  • “The Swan Lake shoe. I chose to do a swan shoe from “Swan Lake”. I love ballet and I think that swans are really elegant. That’s why I really loved doing this shoe project.” – Lily H
  • “The sea side shoe. I chose this theme because I love going to the beach. I also love to go surfing and that is why there is a person surfing on the top of my shoe.” – Hannah W
  • "Art and craft shoe.  I decided to do a shoe based on this idea because it really reflects my personality and what I love.  This shoe was very original and I enjoyed creating my shoe." - Kayleigh L
  • “The forest shoe. I chose this theme because I live in the woods and I always like looking at the secrets of the forest. You never know what you will find.” – Nina J
