Girls in Year 8 – 11 were treated to a fantastic Dance workshop from the founders of “Awareness through Dance” last week. The belief of “Awareness through Dance” is that if you understand your own potential, then you will have the power to make an impact in whatever cause you stand for. Their mission is to create positive change within individuals, communities, and the world.

The aim of the workshop was to inspire the girls and teach them that they can use dance as a tool for so much more than they think. The session enabled them to explore different ways to use dance to convey messages, something they will take forward and use in their future Dance lessons and exams.

During the workshop the girls took part in dance warm ups and exercises where they reflected on what were the most important things in their lives.  They finished the workshop by creating a solo piece of dance and were asked to communicate what they were feeling entirely through movement.

Mrs Wood, Dance teacher said, “This was a fantastic workshop to motivate the girls into thinking what else dance can be used for.  I was impressed by the way the girls shared very insightful and profound comments about their newfound awareness of themselves, and their community, through movement and dancing.”
