Girls in Year 7 visited St Albans Cathedral for a day of discovery last week. During their visit they took part in two workshops where they learnt about the different medieval elements to the historic cathedral.

The first workshop involved the girls going on a “Signs and Symbols” tour of the cathedral and spotting the different types of medieval “graffiti” that is around the building. They then got their hands dirty and created their own clay tiles, using the many medieval floor tiles as their inspiration.

Throughout the workshops and guided tour of the cathedral they also learnt about St Alban, Britain’s first Christian martyr and the history of this place of worship and how St Albans was the final stage of the most important pilgrimage in Europe.

Head of Religious Studies, Mr McKain said “It was a very exciting trip to St Alban’s Cathedral, which the girls found really interesting.  They were captivated by what they learnt and thoroughly enjoyed finding out about the history of a famous place of worship.”
